Pitchfork Music Fest / Union Park / Chicago / 7/09

New Image

Three-day music fests can be quite exhausting, yet fun. There are more bands playing than you can possibly see. The sun blazes down on you. There’s beer and Sparks. The best part about throwing a music fest in a park, is there’s ample places to take a nap. Seriously, you can plant down anywhere and go to sleep. I saw a lot of kids doing this, so I took a  cue from them. I never did get to see the Walkmen.

A Friend’s Wedding / Bethesda, MD / 5/09

reception

I’ve passed out at weddings before. This wedding wasn’t a novelty for me. After the initial cermony, I was greeted with a cocktail reception with free booze. I think we can all agree free drinks are the best part about a wedding…and of course seeing people  in love start their lives together. I had some wine and champagne and mixed drinks, and then had more wine with dinner. I had only had a little bread, so I was extra tired. I just needed to lay my head down for a minute, and oops, I feel asleep. Luckily I woke up in time for cupcakes.

SXSW Party / Austin, TX / 3/09

mob

For the first time ever, I finally made it to Austin for the annual SXSW festival. Of course this entailed driving 18 hours straight from Chicago to Texas.  Once we got to TX, we recouped for an hour and then hit the Myopenbar party. After downing a couple of Budweiser tall boys, I was pretty sleepy. It’s understandable since I hadn’t slept much in the car. I find it apropos that I passed out in front of a giant sign that read, “Myopenbar.com.” It’s almost like the sign was created just for me to snuggle up to. After a quick nap, I rallied and partied into the wee hours.

The Beach at the Hilton Resort / Puntarenas, Costa Rica 2/09

costa rica 210

I haven’t updated this in quite a while, but that doesn’t mean I’ve stopped passing out. No way. I’ll start posting some older photos then some newer ones.

Now my project (and drinking problem?) has reached international proportions. I visited the lovely Latin American country of Costa Rica this winter. During my three-day stay at an all-inclusive resort, I got a little sleepy. I mean, with sunshine, pools, the ocean, and unlimited free drinks, how could I possibly stay awake? There was nothing better than sipping on a pina colada (or five) while basking in the warm glow of the equator sun. If only every day could be a holiday, I’d be set.

Crocodile / Friend’s B-day Party / Chicago / 2/09

Sometimes when you’re so sleepy, you don’t care where you pass out.  For some reason I decided to sleep on the head of the booth instead of in the booth. But look, I fit so well! Open bars will do this to you, my friends.

My Brother’s House / Columbus, OH / Christmas Day ‘08

xmas

We all know the holidays can get the best of us, especially being forced to spend time with loved ones (on the contrary, I actually like my family). So, I sipped a little too much egg nog while waiting for Santa. So I got upset and tried to light the Xmas tree on fire. So my mom got a little angry and told me she wished I was adopted. So what if I didn’t get that Red Ryder BB gun. What’s Christmas without conflict?

Sailing on Lake MI/ Somewhere near WI/ 8-31-08

Over Labor Day weekend, some friends and I went sailing for the first time. We sailed on Lake Michigan, somewhere near the Wisconsin border for hours. Of course being at sea is synonymous with partying. I had a few too many *cocktails mixed with the rocking of the boat, and passed out immediately. Notice I’m sleeping on a life raft just in case something happened. I stole my friend’s hat, too. It was a perfect day to drift on the lake full of booze. I’ll deem it the booze cruise. Notice my tan!

*The truth is, we weren’t allowed to drink at all on the boat. Nazis. We did enjoy some homemade veggie pizza and Gatorade, though. I can even vouch for being asleep. Maybe next time.

Lollapalooza/August 2008

We all know a 3-Day festival can be exhausting and Lolla was no exception. Having access to free beer during the duration of the fest didn’t help matters, either. Neither did passing out magazines in the heat. Oh what fun it all was.

Kinetic Playground/ Redwalls Show/ Chicago/ 5/20/08

This Memorial Day weekend, my friend dragged me to see her new favorite band, the Redwalls in concert. They are an affable local band that was having a party in celebration of their new music video. My friend will never admit this, but she wanted to go to “stalk” the cute members in the band. Okay, she wanted to meet them because they inspire her as a musician and well, their music is good. We ended up meeting the band, although at first there was a case of mistaken identity: We confused one brother in the band with the other. Oops. My friend gave the right brother her demo and he hugged her. Aww. What nice guys (albeit the skinniest guys I’ve ever seen). Anyway, we drank, we danced and then I passed out. Well, not really, but doesn’t it really look like I’m two sheets to the wind? Totally.

Subterranean/ Chicago/ 5/09/08

Some of my friends and I went to Subterranean to take advantage of free Red Stripe. Every week they usually have free PBR for an hour, but this week that had Red Stripe! It’s quite yummy and definitely tastes better than PBR. Each of my friends got two drink tickets, so I really didn’t drink that much. It did the job, though. I go to Subt all the time to see concerts. The free events are usually held in the downstairs lounge. I have a story about the downstairs lounge, but I won’t go into it right now. I’ll save that for my tell-all book.
